One hundred years ago this week, a company named Computing Tabulating Recording was formed. Thirteen years later, that company changed its name to be International Business Machines. This week is IBM's 100th birthday. I have been fortunate to be an IBMer for 27 years so far and I hope for many more years.
I learned a few things about IBM during this celebration. I knew that IBM was critical in putting a man on the moon and on mapping the human genome. But I did not know that IBM invented Lazik surgery (why didn't I get a discount?). IBM also invented the UPC code that is scanned on every product now. These are just a couple of the changes that IBM has help make possible.
Anyway, I just wanted to wish IBM a happy birthday.
